help with dvd-/+rw microadvantage

Hey all,

new member with big problems!! I have a vaio pc, win xp 512mb with a 1.6 p4.

About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Microadvantage dvd-/+ drive. It was working pretty good, I burned some home movies to dvd+rw. I have this drive along with a dvd drive. It came with nero 6 and I was using mediaplayer 9 for dvd playback.

Last week I reinstalled my OS and now I can not get store-bought dvd to play on the dvd-r. They play fine on the dvd drive. When I try and use the dvd-r I get picture freeze ups, macroblocking, pixelation, and sound breakups. I get these problems using all software(wmp9, real1, and some OEM program.)

I dont know where to go next, I called MicoAdv. and they said I need a firmware update, but I dont understand that since it worked fine before the reinstall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I purchased the same drive. I reinstalled my OS (Win98) and I can't get it to recognize the dvd +r disks. If I install the Sony driver for DVD, It will read the CD -R disks, but still not the DVD +R. I did all the upgrades/reinstalls but still nothing. I'm trouble shooting right now. Still have not heard from MicroAdvantage.

I dont know about with Win98, I have been off of it for since '01.

I did fix my problem by download a flash reprogram file. Took care of all my problems!!

I have the Microadvantage DVD±RW / CD-RW Superdrive. Recently I upgraded my firmware to version 043, and now I can't burn DVD-R's - RW's work fine! Does anybody have the 040 version that they could send me? I deleted mine - duh!

I too now have version 43 and can't burn DVD-Rs. Would reverting back to 40 help? And if so, does anyone have a copy?

I bought the MicroAdvantage +/-DVD and tried to install it in a Dell. I updated the flash firmware and all software provided. I properly setup the Master/slave relationship with my other drives (the DVD was Master). The thing crashed my system when I tried to play a DVD. I even went to the BTC site (manufacturer of the drive) for help. The Power DVD site has a fix for the BTC DVD which is the MicroAdvantage +/- DVD, but it did not help. I returned the drive. It is not worth the hassle. I'll try another manufacturer.

I purchased the MicroAdvantage dvd burner about 1 week ago..I have have this drive about 1 week too long. It's going back to the store tomorrow and i will purchase a real dvd burner. Nothing but problems with playback. I tried all sorts of different dvd media, firmware updates, software. I had enough! Time to upgrade to a Sony

My microadvantage superdrive works fine buring and reading.
I am not able to play 'movie' dvds though. when i use cyberlink power dvd i get error msg 809000e. my system is set to region 1 and i use region 1 disks. when i use windows media player the same disks play , however very choppy.

i am currently using firmware ver 37 and have tried to download the latest ver, though i have had problems getting it to dowload.

my system: athlon 3200, abit nf7-s, 1 gig pc 3200

any ideas? THANKS !!!
