Outdoors help cd-rom won't work!

I have a no name pc with a ecs p6vem3 mobo

It doesn't pick up the first cd-rom on the primary cable, but it does with the second slot on the cable, using xp home, have cd-rom and a cd-rw in there, but it doesn't pick up the first.

The power works fine on it, xp just doesn't notice it, the bios is set to auto find and it used to work before.

Can this mobo support two cd-roms? It came with two 5.25 slots and two cd-rom cable slots

EDIT: http://www.ecsusa.com/products/p6vem3.html

Says supports up to 4 IDE devices, so not sure what's going on =(

you try another cable?

you say the cd is detected on one cable connector but not the other?

How is the jumper set on the cd drive?

On some occasions, it does make a difference which drive the cd is attached to, depending on the jumper.

We used to argue this point often in my ex comp shop. The manager said the master ALWAYS had to be on the end of the cable, lol. I told him he was nuts and Id put it on the innermost conenctor just to bug him...but on occasion there is some truth to it.

But I cant remember the specifics....so if you have it on master, try cable select....obviously if you have it on slave, and its by itself..who knows what it would do.
