adding more harddrives

I currently have two hard drives connected to my ide1 interface and on my ide2 interface, a cd burner and dvd drive. How would I be able to add addition hard drives? I have a fairly old motherboard, more specfically the abit kt7a, and if I remember correctly, I tried to replace my cdrom/dvdrom with 2 small harddrives and the system didnt pick up on it.

I have the latest bios for my board..am I missing something?

you need a PCI IDE card.

it would give you the extra slots you need.

Perhaps it was not set to auto detect in the bios.

Still using the KT7A in this work computer! Check my outdated user name!

Edit:

Also, you should be using an 80 conductor cable (ATA66/100) and the drives should be set to CS (cable select).

So it's possible? I guess should I try it again before I get an IDE card...what's RAID? is that a better option?

Raid is used to provide either performance or data protection.

It involves using two hard drives instead of one. It's either setup to split the data across both drives (for faster acess), or puts the same data on both drives (for redundency).

Well you are limited to 4 drives total unless your board already has RIAD built in.

Evidently, as was stated, you either didnt have the jumpers right on the drives, or you didnt set the bios right...set the bios to auto detect the hard drives.
