HP OmniBook 6000 power issues

I have an HP OmniBook 6000 and it's having huge issues powering on. Whether the battery is on it or not, it turns on for like maybe 8-10 seconds, then immediately powers off. Because of this, I cannot charge the battery or, more obviously, use the laptop. I was thinking maybe the A/C adapter may be at fault, but I tested it on a friend's identical laptop and it worked perfectly. So, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's the "little thing you plug the A/C adapter to". Maybe it's damaged or something. The machine hasn't been dropped, wet, or exposed to any power surges (that I know of).

Any help at all on this would be appreciated! Thank you.
