weird lag problem

I play a lot of internet games, things like CS, warcraft III, and bf 1942. However, I have this lag problem that i cant seem to fix.
I have a comp. w/ a
2.26 p4 553 fsb
Ecs VIA Apollo P4X266 mobo
512 mb ddr 2100 ram
80 gb harddrive
ti4600 128 mb graphics card
windows xp
wireless network w/ a cable connection
netgear ma101 usb 802.11b adapter

I dont just loose frame rates, I totally lag out, and it is very annoying. None of my other friends seem to have this problem, and my dad's Dell laptop over the same LAN doesnt have this problem. I fixed it slightly by disabling the onboard LAN in the bios, but its still there. Thanks for the help

I had trouble connecting with my wireless and cabled computers and after searching the D Link's FAQ's, I found that I had to change my MTU setting ( which is 1500 by defaut ) to 1452 in the router's wireless setup box. Try that and see what happens.

pickel is right, rkenshin09. I had a similar problem on a D-Link. Apparently when you update the firmware on some of their wireless routers it changes the MTU settings to work the best with their own wireless adapters... if you have any other brand or an older model then they die ever few minutes. It's a huge pain! Just go into the HTML based setup screen through your browser... I seem to recall its under Advanced wireless settings or something like that.

Good luck!

I would try that, yes. If it doesn't work let us know.
