Broadband on a Pentium 233!

Who needs a $1000+ system f0r surfing! This little thing does just fine! Though being Frontiernet, my 1.5mbit DSL tends to top out at 0.5Mbit. But do you recall the days on your sub 300Mhz machine and your 56K (or slower!) surfing! Or worse, downloading! EEEk. Compared to my bigger machines, there is almost no difference in the speed of my surfing. Big (or graphically intense) pages takes just a hair longer to display, but it's very minimal.

Specs
Pentium 233Mhz
64MB EDO RAM
~10Gig (2 hard drives)
AWE64 Audio (ISA)
10/100 Intel NIC (ISA)
Voodoo Banshee (Monster Fusion) PCI Video w/16MB RAM
Windows 98se

It's for sale, too [see B/S/T forum!]

Had a similar system but not as super sophisticated as yours I loaned to a neighbor---(running a 2mbps cable to her house off my router) she bought a brand new Dell laptop P4 equipped with AOL dialup to replace it and came to me---
"Why is my NEW Dell ($1800) laptop so slow compared to the loaner"
(Loaner was donated, now resides in the Philippines)

Connected a friends 300mhz Pentium laptop via its onboard nic to my system---he flipped while clicking instantly thru his favorites being so used to Earthlinks dialup slowness...

A fast connect can re-vitalize some of these old clunkers for some peeps...

Well, who here has some 64MB EDO DIMMs for sale?!?

Oh, and I botched the dang sound drivers...now the AWE64 is not producing sound, and being recognized as "Unknown device" after attempting to remove it in hopes of a restore of the original 98 drivers. I'll probably just reinstall windows tomorrow cuz I'm lazy...what happened was I wasn't getting sound on my emulators, so I tried an updated driver for the card. Stupid me forgot to install DirectX8.1! That's WAS why there was no sound in the emulators (but there was in windows)...

PnP got me spoiled!
