Hardware Manual Install

2.4C P4
Abit IS7
GeForce FX 5600
Corsair 512MB RAM

My computer won't recognize my AVerMedia DVD EZMaker PCI analog video capture card. How do I install it manually? I downloaded the latest drivers from AVerMedia, but it's not an executable file.

Send a message via ICQ to JohnE.
Is the driver in a .zip file and is there an .inf file in the .zip?
If yes on both counts: unpack the .zip file to a temporary directory, start the Add Hardware Wizard and follow through until you get to a "Have Disk" button and point it at the .inf file that's in the dir where you unpacked the .zip.

Sorry... forgot to mention I'm using Windows XP Pro. Yeah, the drivers are in a ZIP file. I unpacked them on a temporary directory.

Okay, I went to Add Hardware. It's asking me "Have you already connected this hardware to your computer?" I clicked yes. Next, I choose "Add a new hardware device." At this point, if I choose "Search for and install the hardware automatically" it doesn't find the hardware. It then goes to a window where I'm supposed to choose the category of hardware. The choices:

Display adapters
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
IEE 1394 Bus host controllers
Imaging devices
Infrared devices
Modems
Multi-port serial adapters
Network adapters
NT Apm/Legacy Support
PCMCIA adapters
PCMCIA and Flash memory devices
Ports (COM & LPT)
Printers
SCSI and RAID controllers
Sound, video, and game controllers
System devices
Tape drives

Which one do I choose?

Update: I chose "Show All Devices." Since AVerMedia isn't listed, I chose "Have Disk..." I went to the directory with the drivers and selected them. The problem is, after selecting the drivers, I am faced with window where I'm supposed to choose which hardware the driver is for, but no hardware is listed.

Would it be safe to insert the PCI card into the computer while it's on? Maybe Windows will detect that a new device has been inserted if I insert it while it's on.
