amd for gamming

I am no computer genius but why is amd good for gamming when the 3200+ is @2.2ghz and intel p4 is @3.2, you got a whole gig of extra power for games now at http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Home.jsp
amd athalon 64 3200+ @ $442
amd athalon xp 3200+ @ $458(64 cheaper ?)
intel p4 @3 ghz with ht $390 or you can go with the 3.2 ghz for $610.
at http://www.newegg.com
amd athalon 64 3200+ @ $815 (I think someone has a typo)
amd athalon xp 3200+ @ $445
intel p4 @3 ghz with ht $383 or you can go with the 3.2 ghz for $612. all prices are boxed retail.(note I have never done any shoping at these sites so I dont know if they are legit).

I think his question was, why are Athlon XPs better for gaming when they have slower frequencies compared to Pentium 4s. I heard that before also, but never got an explanation. Anyone know why?

look at it this way .

intel = v6
amd = v8

for the v6 to get 250 HP it has to run at 5k rpm
for the v8 to get 250 hp it has to run at 3k rpm
both get 250hp but one has to spin alot faster to get to it .

the 2 cpus go about the job alittle different , the amd doesn't need the same speed as the intel to get the same , or simular results .

thats about the easiest way to explain it without going into alot of mumbo jumbo .

that's about one of the BEST analysis of the two processors I've ever heard, Omardeth.

But.... The two processors are BOTH good at gaming.
I personally have an AMD XP1800 (1533 MHZ) processor and I haven't found a game that it can't run.
My brother's Pentium IV 1.7Ghz machine (faster in MHZ than the xp1800) actually performs lower than mine.

I've heard lots of analogies about AMD and Intel. Here's my favorite:

Two loaders from UPS, one small guy and one big guy. The small guy can pick up boxes and run to the trucks really fast, but can only load one or two boxes at a time. The big guy cannot run as fast as the small guy, but he can carry a whole lot more boxes than the small guy. The small guy is Pentium, the big guy is AMD. In the same way that both UPS workers' supervisor would be impressed by the small guy's speed, consumers are impressed by Pentium's numbers alone. They don't consider real-life performance of AMD processors, just like the supervisor doesn't recognize that the big guy loads just as many boxes as the small guy.

I would like some technical mumbo jumbo, though....

In any case, buying top end processors means getting taken. Just buy the 90$ 2500+ and you'll be happy with waaaay less cost for very little noticeable gain.
