newbie gaim question

Hi everyone... its me again. Question....got gaim running for msn messenger...and a window pops up from microsoft telling me that i need to update it. hmmm how do i do that?

Please keep in mind when you give me your suggestions.. that i have no idea how to do anything yet in Mandrake .. lol. Seriously nothing. So speak to mas as if i am 6 years old. Thanks again.. and im still SOO EXCITED!!!!!!!! I love it even though i cant use it!

What version of gaim are you using?

I am fairly sure that I get that sometimes but I don't think it stops it working, could be wrong though.

I wouldn't worry about it either. What version of gaim are you currently running?

Help -> About once gaim is running. Should be 0.6X I would think.

If you want to update to 0.70 go here

Download gaim-0.70-1mdk9.1.i586.rpm

Then use urpmi gaim-0.70-1mdk9.1.i586.rpm to update your gaim.

hmmm I think im using o.5X I downloaded the o.7 i beleive from their website but it think it was a .tar file, and all i could do (cause i dont know what to do ) was extract it. :S I iwll try again when i get home tonight.

MS and Yahoo! are changing they're IM's around to stop 3rd party progs (like Gaim and Trillian) from accessing they're services.

From what I understand, MSN should still work (does for me) but won't forever. M$ wants these 3rd party companies to pay for a license. Go figure.

Like if that has ever happened before . Well if M$N or the protocol you use stops working just use jabber instead, now the trick will be to get your buddies to switch to it also.

I'm running 0.70 and MSN, AOL, and Yahoo are all working. Don't know for how long. After I upgraded, I no longer get the popup from MS urging me to update my "MSN Messenger".

I am trying to upgrade to gaim .70 from .68 on Mandrake 9.2 and it tells me i am missing some files. How do i fix this?

The files are;

libtcl8.3.so
libtk8.3.so


I am loving drake 9.2 RC2.
