removing cpu off of mobo

This may sound stupid, but i was wondering if it is possible to pull the cpu off of the mobo and to put my old cpu on a new one. I want to by a new mobo, but i dont want to buy a new chip.
Also, how hard is the process listed above if it is possible?
Thanks.

i was thinking of replacing my cheap taiwanese mobo that has like ddr 200 memory and a 533 fsb 2.26 p4 with maybe a rambus mobo or something w/ ddr 400. As i said before, i want to keep the chip. Thanks for the quick replies

As long as the sokets are the same it isn't a problem,as long as the new MOBO supports the CPU.

Save the old mobo, so when ya upgrade the CPU you'r only a few bucks from another system

thanks for the tip.
Will the rambus memory or ddr400 memory make a significant difference in performance, especialy for games? I have a ti4600 and a cable connection, so i enjoy gaming.
