Kids Lynsys Router Mystery. I dare anyone to solve this one!!

I'm useing a Lynksys cable/dsl router model BERSR11. The other day I tried to access my config tool thru my browser. The IP address and password are set at the factory default setting. I couldn't connect!!! (By the way I'm runnin Win XP Home). So I go to "run" Type "cmd" then "ipconfig" and what do ya think I see? A Brand Spanking new IP ADDRESS!!!! Never seen it in the 2 or 3 years I've had the router. So I type in the new IP address an low an behold the password box comes up for my router. Kewl!! Right? WRONG!!! I type in "admin" (the default password that I have never changed, and I get an "UNAUTHERIZED Screen" sayin I enterd the wrong password. So Since this occured I can't take anyone of the firewal or do any other config's that I may want. Any suggestions? If you guys figure this one out, You Must be REAL Good. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Help me out, I wanna beat this bad. Thanks.

why not just reset it? in the front of the router there is a button. take a paper clip to it and hold it. all the lights should flash. unplug it and plug it back in just for safe measures

1. Well, do you have your IP set static for this system? Like 192.168.1.101 or something of the sort? Because if you didn't it could change from your ISP releasing a new IP. I know you mentioned 2~3 years of same IP, but still.. Most likely you have a dynamic IP, not static unless you paid the extra cash...

2. Reset to router default by pressing the RESET botton and the password should default back to admin if I remember correctly..

Sounds like someone hacked your router. Do what the other guys say and reset it. Then go back in and change the password.

I can't believe how fast you guys replied!! This is a VERY nice site. I did exactly what you both recomended while I was away. I Unplugged the cable modem from the router. Then I hit "reset" with a pen and held it for abou 30 secs. Then I unplugged the router, and my neywork hub. Waited about 2 mins, and plugged the modem back into the router. I fired up the modem, then the router, and finnaly the hub, and BAM!!! I back on track. Thank you for your replies. I guess we all got smarts (Smile) Thanks again. Cya !

Heeler...
don't forget to change your admin password from the default value... you 'may' have been hacked in the first place.
