so why not utilize the cold weather?

i just fired up sisoft sandra and got some temp readings from my comp, pretty warm, so i rigged up a fan with a air deflector to suck air in from outside the window, my pc is right next to a window, so i figured why not. but im thinking it might not be a good idea when it gets -30F here, but for now itll work...what do you guys think?

Mide as well utilize the cool air outside, however there could be a few downsides. You'd definately need a filter, especially when sucking outside air into the case. A big fan pumping air into a case is going to cause severe dust buildup and possibly conductive particles might get in there. Also, without "standard" airflow through a case there tends to be hotspots around thigns like PCI slots and drive bays, however if the volume of air coming in is significant thats not really a problem
I keep my window open to counteract the heat my comp pumps out in my tiny room. The 25-30F fall temps do that fairly efficiently.

what sort of filter are you talking about...im interested, it seems to have cooled the whole tower down immensily...
im not worried about hot spots, i have 1 other fan blowing up from the bottom onto the undersides of the harddrives, and no case cover, im in there way too often to leave it on...so dust has been a problem in general, but i clean her out every now and then...

A standard air cleaner filter ought to work.

Just rig something up to the side of your case so that it pipes into the filter before it gets inside your case. I think for this one you ought to keep the side of your case on...too much could go wrong if something blows in there.

why don't you make a flowerbox mod and put the whole system outside =) little passthrough in the walls to get the cables through. Neato!

Seems to me that I've heard of this b4, and there was a problem. The outside air has humidity. This forms condensation (like when the water droplets form on the inside of your window). Condensation drips down from the heatsink onto AGP / PCI cards. This hurts computer - lol. Kinda simplistic but that was the problem described where-ever I read it. Just a thought and not from my personal experience.
