power supply question

if you have a bad psu..will it mess up your motherboard, cpu, and etc..?

it can , i have never had a psu go out and take anything with it but others have said they have .

I worked in a shop for many,many years.
If youre lucky just the power supply goes.
If youre not so lucky, Ive seen bad power supplys take out everything but the floppy drive.
Mostly they will allways get the Hard drives and optical drives.

Yeah, its pretty much luck of the draw... Thats why you want a good quality PSU. Not only do you greatly lessen the chances of the PSU going bad, but generally the better PSU's have protection circuits that protect the rest of the system if the PSU happens to get overloaded or something.

Here is a picture from a claim to be a cause of "insuffiecient demand for power to motherboard"

It's not a pretty site. Trying to save a few bucks not buying a new PSU may cause this...
