Ipaq 5555 and Bluetooth GPS - Solution
The setup I'm using for this is an Ipaq 5555, Socket Bluetooth GPS, and Delorme HandHeld 2004. Alot of problems reported with using Bluetooth GPS units and newer Pocket PCs with Mobile 2003. Seems like the problem most people run into is the mapping software not recognizing/connecting with the GPS. So I have a fix that's only been tested on an Ipaq 5555 but may work with others.
First you need to install your hardware/profile normally through the Bluetooth Manager. After that, you need to go back to the Bluetooth Manager and pair the devices. The passkey is 0183 for Socket Bluetooth GPS owers. Now, install both the desktop and device versions of Delorme Handheld. The desktop version is required to export maps.
Now, you need a regsitry editor...I used Resco Explorer. Locate the following key" Hotkey Local Machine\Drivers\Builtin\Serial8. Change the Index value to 1, leave the Device Array Index set at 8. Save your changes, close your editor, perform soft reset. After the reset, start your Delorme software from your handheld. Go to settings and set it for COM 1. Now go ahead and connect (make sure your GPS is on...duh). What should happen is that you'll get the Bluetooth Manager screen asking you to select your device, tap your GPS. It'll probably come back a second time asking you to select your device, tap your GPS icon again. Now you should be able to switch back to the Delorme software and it should have established the connection. I went through a number of soft resets and each time I got consistent performance.
