Which would you choose for your SATA setup?

If you wanted to take full use of your two SATA connectors, which would you choose to have as your setup?

1. (1) WD Raptor 37gb 10,000rpm for operating system, while (1) 120gb 7200rpm for files, etc.

2. (2) WD Raptor 37gb 10,000rpm Raid+0 for striping and find alternate means for file storage (list what you'd do)

3. Something different (post below)

2 Raptor drives in Raid, then a decent 7200rpm IDE Drive for backup...

Kids

I don't know why would you like to use raid configuration.
It takes far too much space on your hard drives.

Anyway if you would like to have raid onto your PC, it would be useless on 1 hard drive. Depending on the raid that you want to use, you should have at least 2 hard drives. Very expensive.

i wouldn't get a sata hard drive period . the preformance boost is to small for the cost of the drives . i wouldn't bother with raid either for a home pc it isn't really needed .

I would go with SATA 10K without RAID-0 though... I would use the Raptor for the OS and applications since this will be the fastest hard disk in your system. I would get a 7,200rpm or even settle for 5,400rpm for data storage.

The performance boost on RAID-0 is not as noticeable in the real world and just not worth the risk of losing all data if one of the hard disk goes south..

I have a very similar setup myself. Only difference is I use SCSI U160 10K drive for OS and apps, and store all data on 160GB 7,200rpm HDD along with a couple other IDE drives...

I wouldn't trust a RAID-0 setup for anything important, knowing that if one drive died I'd lose all the data.

If you want to spend the extra money, I'd get a Raptor for my boot drive and the large drive for storage. I remember seeing a review shortly ago (can't find the link) that compared the Raptor to the new Seagate and Maxtor SATA drives, and found that for about half the tests the Raptor was performing almost like the other two.
