Radeon 9800 SE

anyone seen any reviews on this card and how it compares to the normal 9800 non pro?

The Radeon 9800 SE sells for quite a bit cheaper than the 9800 (non pro) and far as I know so far it's only disadvantage is the 4 pipelines to the 9800's 8 Any other disadvantages?

can you please provide me with more information, because the 9800SE costs a lot more than the 9600

i went through some pretty detailed benchmarks from korea, china, and other asian countries, turns out rather odd...

there seem to be 3 major brands, and 2 of them are really very bad. one of them is able to tag along with the 9800np quite well, but the other two were very comparable to a +10% 9600pro.

im sorry i can't provide better information but from what i understand is this: the 9800 SE has 4 pipelines and is built on the 9800 core, but the 9800 non pro is just a lower clocked 9800pro with 8 pipelines.

the SE is quite crippled and not worth it IMO. im waiting to see what the 9600XT can offer because ATI claims it to be the replacement of the 9700pro for only 200 bucks... only time will tell

Stay away from the SE. Your better off saving for a 9800NP or getting a 9600Pro.

Definitely go for a 9800 np if you have the money. The SE version will not be up to speeds to the non pro version. It only gives like a 10-15 % difference in speed with the 9600Pro.

Although, I have heard that there is a way to get the SE to a NP and thus activating the 8 pipelines. But I'm not sure on this ... will dig for more info....

There seems to be people that are taking the same approach they did with the 9500 -> 9700 to do the SE mod.
Try this page,:

If you are going to flash your videocard BIOS, remember to take all the necessary precautions and make a backup of the old BIOS and have a PCI card ready just in case.
