Windows Updates

I have Windows XP Pro.

I heard that installing some updates and service packs cause slowdowns on your computer. Is this true? If so, how can I tell which ones will slow down my computer or not?

I'm asking because my computer started to slow down dramatically. To fix the problem, I re-installed Windows XP Pro. That got it working again. But now I'm wondering which updates to install.

There is a known patch in SP1 that causes this on certain systems... Go to the link below...

Would it be safe to wait until it's fixed or should I just install it now and deal with the slowdown? After all, it's a security patch.

First install XP SP1 so you can update the rest of the system and then install the fix patch so the bad XP SP1 file will be overwritten...
