Virtual Memory error in XP

I am having problems (shocker) with running more than one program at a time. I don't have a lot of programs that come up on start up, yet I keep getting a virtual memory error. XP did an automatic update a couple of days ago, on intstall, that's where the problem occured. I would rather drive pins through my nailbeds than call Microsoft support, any suggestions would be appreciated!

It says warning, you have a virtual memory error, please see XP help for details, then promptly shuts down what program I'm using

Hmmmm.. To be honest with you, I haven't come across this error, but I'd like to make a suggestion..

How many partitions do you have on that disk?

The exact error message would help alot.
Perhaps you have a bad sector in your hd and it's where the paging file is allocated?

I'm thinking 3 things.

1. Maybe his disk so full, the pagefile doesn't have enough room to increase in size.

2. The pagefile maybe corrupted where he may need to set it to a different partition and then set it back to the original partition so the pagefile will be recreated...

3. Your idea...

My HD is not partitioned, I just bought this computer a couple of months ago. I have plenty of room on my HD, that's one of the first things I checked. I'll try going in to see if I can change the size of the pagefile.
