total cpu usage when copying files!!

hey

im having a problem when i just copy files off of a cd onto the hdd it uses 100% of the cpu and it makes the mouse go all chunky
n e ideas?
i have a p4 1.7
512 2100
gf4 mx 440
win 2000
asus p4pe
40 7200 seagate
20 5400 seagate

Hmmm... Sounds like a problem I had as well.
I'm not sure what it is, but it ended up going away, and it didn't happen on a different install of windows. That takes away the chance of a hardware problem.

1. Make sure DMA is enabled. PIO mode will cause such problems..

2. Make sure you have the chipset driver loaded...

dma is enabled
and it didnt used to do it with my older crapper mobo
