Overclocking a graphics card is easy - just go to:

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/

And download the latest version of PowerStrip. Once installed, right click the icon in the system tray, then go Performance>Settings. You should see 2 sliders, one for RAM and the other for the GPU. Start by adjusting them in 5Mhz increments, and test for stability in between. Don't go all at once, as theirs no way to tell how far you can push your card as it's different from everyone elses.

Once you start seeing artifacts like stray pixles, noise etc... it's time to back off. Then, loop 3DMark2001se for a good several hours to check for stability.

Hope this helps,
Foxy

You dont really need to loop for several hours. If there is a problem, you will notice it.

to be honest you wont really notice a big difference when you overclock a video card. you might get a couple more frame rates but thats about it.

as for the dangers you can burn your card up really quick if you set it to the wrong settings

I totally agree... Just not worth it in my opinion...

Listen not to the naysayers! The simple do not understand the dark arts! Seriously, when OC'ed, I've noticed cards able to handle certain game areas which would lag at stock speeds.

agreed (with tony)
I overclocked my 9500Pro by about 60mhz in core speed (GPU), and noticed a substantial increase in benchmarking scores. I saw no significant increases when soley bumping up the memory clock. NOTE: The best scores I got were when I had the core and memory frequency in SYNC with each other (rather than clocking up the core to the highest it will go).

Yep, just gotta make sure you go slow. If your system doesnt cool well, like mine, you wont be able to go to high, so watch out for that. And if you do get the ATi, http://rage3d.com/r3dtweak/ thats a link for the program to OC.

If your case lacks cooling action, consider doing what me and many other people do. Just take at least the left side panel off your case so air can circulate freely.
