which gigabyte mobo?

MY son is going to build me a computer. I am looking at the
gigabyte 8knxp. Is it wise to spend the extra money and get the 8knxp instead of the IK1100?
Also, what is the difference between the 8knxp 875p and the 8knxp limited edition i875p?
Any suggestions and also any experiences with these boards would be appreciated.

the 8knxp offers the following enhancements over the 1100:

giga-Ethernet (over fast Ethernet)
more serial ata connectos (4 over 2)
enhanced RAID controller

not sure what the limited edition is you're referrring to unless you mean the Ultra version which basically has ultra320 scsi support...

That sure is a whole lot of motherboard there.

Are you going to use that box for a server? Most folks don't need Ultra320 SCSI support in a computer if that's what you're asking.

The above address has the limited edition of the 8knxp for sale. It is not priced high enough to be the ultra edition. I just want to know if it is the same as the plain 8knxp that newegg has for sale at $214.
I don't plan on using the box as a server and don't plan on buying the 8knxp ultra--it is too expensive. I just wonder if it is worth it to get the 8knxp instead of the 8Ik1100.

imo, the only compelling reason to buy the 8knxp would be if you need gigaEthernet speeds. the limited edition (based on the link's description) sounds like the standard version.

personally, i would get the k1100 and use the savings towards more ram,etc...
