Kids Defrag Help

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I am having problems defraging my pc. I am running on Windows Me, I went to run my defrag last night and when I woke up this morning and went to check how it was prgressing it was still at 0% and it was saying checking disc for errors. This has never happened before and I am wondering if there is anything I can do to get it to work properly? If anyone could help that would be great.

Welcome to TechIMO!

Have you run a scandisk yet?

This could be your problem.

Send a message via Yahoo to kendo
it sounds like it is getting hung while checking the drive for errors this option can be removed in the settings for defragging

since it appears to be hung there you might want to run scandisk with the thorough option (this will take a lot of time depending on the size of the harddrive) and then attempt to defrag the drive

and WELCOME to TechIMO

Also, make sure there are no background programs running. Programs that have to access the drive, will cause the whole process to start over.

Yes, listen to the Dr as well! CTRL-ALT-DEL and end any non-essential tasks (generally at the bottom of the list).

I always boot into Safe Mode to do it. It keeps other apps from restarting the defrag.
