Freelancing

Question for everyone...

My question is...

With all the programmers here, and users needing help, how may are doing the freelance work for free? Is freelancing the way to go?

The reason that I am asking is that I am currently on a medical leave from work, and interested in taking up a new life in the freelance world doing PHP/MySQL. Is there a living to be made doing this? Or is running a site like the below just a big waist of time?

As fellow 'freelancers' are you making enough to live off?

What tips can you share to others that are trying to do the same?

I just started a new site for freelancing called Direct Freelance.

Pardon me???
I thought that this was a good question...
Are you a freelancer? Do you make money doing it? Is it worth your time, and can you make a living doing it?

The ONLY reason that the URL is posted was as an example...
I will gladly edit the post and remove it, if will make you feel better, and get an answer out of you, rather than you accusing me of SPAM!

Etcher...

IMO I don;'t think you can make much money doing PHP/mySQL, unless you are a master and make a great unique script.

Can you do that?

The reason I say this is because PHP is open source, meaning there are millions of free scripts/support/programmers out there.

Now, if you were an ASP or CF programmer.... that's a different story.

my .02cents.

Stupid puppy has had me up since 2 A.M.

I'm more than a little tense.

I'll edit the first post now.

ASP I do as well, but PHP is so much more powerfull...
Yes, I know that it is open source, PHP and MySQL anyway.
And yes there are 100's of FREE scripts out there...
But really, when I write one, I spend hours and hours filling in every last detail... I am not so sure that I want to pass my time off for free...
Now I also see, MANY scripts out there that sell, I have even bought a couple... VB and PhotoPost, not that I am trying to compare...
Lets take another example... Hot ot Not... There are many of those scripts out there, and I wanted one too, this one I wrote, and without bragging, I out did them for options, performance, features, etc... Now they are selling, would it be worth my while to sell mine and make a living? Another script that I am working on is a Helpdesk/Billing/Trouble Ticket System... I have HOURS of work into this, and I see others selling something with less features than mine for 100.00, and I also see others free...

Maybe it depends on where you live and who your market is going to be. There are lots of variables in play....there are some people who could make a living selling lawn care products to people on the south pole.
