M O U S E for budget gaming

Well I'm a cheapskate and I'm not willing to spend more than 20 bucks on a mouse. What options do I have? I heard those Microsoft and Logitech mices give superb performance and are cheap too.
But there's so many of them, which should I choose?

And USB or PS/2? I heard USB is faster, is it true?

USB is faster, more data can be sent to the computer, but I haven't noticed an difference in USB/ PS/2 mice. Microsoft Intellimouse is a great mouse for cheap.

Is MS-Intellimouse good for gaming? I'm for 1st-person shooters. Why is it called Intelli- anyway? Are there some special functions?

5-buttons, and it's optical. I have a friend that has one and likes it a lot. We were trying "Spank The Monkey from funnyjunk.com and he got an outrageous score(without the cheating method).

Whoa! What am I supposed to do with 5 buttons? Just 2 will do, 3 is already quite unnecessary for me... Well the other buttons will just be a nuisance won't it.
And I heard that wheel-ball mices are much better in gaming than optical ones?

You cant go wrong with Logitech, I have bought around 5 mouse for 4 different computers and they still work correctly where are speaking that my first mouse was way back on 1995.... The newest one was a replacement for my ball mouse for an optical but it still works fine, I just changed because it was black as my system..

You can find the Logitech opticals wheel mice for cheap and they work very well. In fact, all my computers at home use Logitech optical wheel mice.

I've picked them up for 10-15 bucks CAD.

5 buttons is very useful.. i wont buy a mouse with less now...
the two other buttons are possitioned near your thumb and ring finger.. i have mine set to move forward and backwards on webpages (very useful instead of haveing to go to the back button... it also works on slide shows etc..)
