Is it possible to...

We have a wireless network set up here in our apartment. We have DSL service going into a router, which our three comps connect to.

Our buddies down the hall have cable internet and a wireless router as well. Is there any way in which we can hook all of us together? I suspect that it should be as simple as setting the SSID and password to be the same on both routers- but something tells me it's not that easy right?

Also, if we were to connect the routers via the same SSID, there would be two access points to the internet, our DSL and their cable. Would we be able to take advantage of the extra bandwidth? Or how would it be partitioned out- i.e. if you were connected to their router then you'd be using their connection, whereas if you were on our router it'd be going through ours?

Just wondering if this can be done- does it make sense?

No. It would not work the way you have envisioned it.

It might be possible to use the bandwidth of both ISPs with a separate network interface (wireless card) for each connection, and some kind of software for teaming the two interfaces, but it would be very difficult I think. Especially if you friends are very far down the hall, it may not be possible even to get a reliable connection. Not to mention I think you would probably be in violation of at least one of the ISPs TOS rules.

You'd end up with two routers with the same IP address on the same LAN. It won't work at all.
