Win 2K Vid card swap problem

Hi
I went to swap a new vid card on my win2k pc. I removed the old vid card from device manager and shut the computer down. I swapped in the new card and rebooted. No matter what I do , when the boot process gets to the point of displaying the desktop, the computer reboots. I swapped the old card back in but no luck.
Occasinally there is a blue screen that pops up during the boot process but it disappers so fast that I can't read the message.
I figure I dumbed out somewhere in the process but I don't know where. Help!

Arjay

Can you get into safe mode? Press F8 while the PC is booting. Perhaps then you could install the correct driver for your Video card.

To start Windows 2000 in Safe mode

1. Watch the screen while it is still black. When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu appears.
2. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected. In most cases, it is the first item in the list and is selected by default. (If it is not selected, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select it.)
3. Press Enter. The computer will start in Safe mode. This can take a few minutes.
4. When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

I tried that as well as every other combo on the F8 screen but it's always the same - reboots right after the win2000 splash screen. The system was running fine prior to this problem. No virus - scanned and defraged etc.The vid card must be working since I can view the entire boot process.
I'm going to try and read the bootlog.

Success!
I guess that the vid card I swapped in had a problem, one that prevented Win2k from booting, then as well as when I swapped the original card back in. I was able to restroe the Last KNown Good Configuration and get back up and running.

Thanks for the help!
