Hello
I need to change my IP for security reasons.
I always change it by entering Start-Control Panel- Network Connections- Active connection (Local Area connection). I double click and enter properties under the General tab. In the new window that pops up I select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties. In this new window I select the General tab and choose "Use the following IP address" and for the IP address I enter the IP I would like to use. The problem is that there I use an IP address like this (with number of course) XX.X.X.X and when I contact the support of my internet connection they have helped me by giving different variations to enter. All of them work and I can connect to the internet but the IP address that other people see is different. Fore example when I enter www.myipaddress.com or www.my-ip-address.com its a totally different IP, its like this (with numbers of course) XXX.XXX.XX.XX
Why is this? How can I change my IP address that other people see? Since I can change my IP address as explained and where but even if I change it to a different IP addres (for example from XX.X.X.X to XX.X.XX.XX or others. I am very confused and as explained for security reasons I need to change the IP address that other people can see.

Thanks for Listening
dan

Hmm, are you being proxied? That would explain the difference in IP addresses from myipaddress.com and what you put on your machine.

Also, is the address that the ISP is giving you in the public address space?

well it depends on your internet service provider. how do you connect to the internet? if you dial up, or have some sort of DHCP internet connection, all you have to do is reconnect to the internet a few times and it should change.

if you have a static internet ip address, you need to talk to your isp and see if they can give you a new one.

what i think you are doing is just changing your LAN IP address. which doesnt really mean too much to the internet world. unless, you have some sort of router that forwards port requests to a certain IP address.

Well, since I dont know a lot about this I really dont know specificly my internet connection. All I know is that its a blue cable that connects to my Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC and from what I know its radio high speed internet. No, its not Dial-Up, that I know. I think Sixf00t got it totally right when he said that the IP that I can change is LAN since when my brother plays games with me (sometimes, not always since I really dont like games) we use these IP addresses to connect to each other, not the IP that other people can see. The problem is that I really need to change the IP address that other people can see for security reasons, not the IP address that me and the people from the same network can.

Also, is the address that the ISP is giving you in the public address space?
Answer: No, totally different from the IP I see (not through myipaddress.com) The public address is the one I cant figure out how to change it.

You can't change the public ip assigned by your ISP. Are you using a router? If you are your pc will be assigned an ip from the private ip range (something like this 192.168.1.101). Changing the private ip does nothing for security, you already have it from the router.

are you sharing off internet to other computers in the house? I assume so since you play games over the network with your brother.

How are you sharing out the internet?

He can't change his ip unless his ISP changes it. The question is:Why was his ip banned?
