The XP 2000+ - 2600+ is the AMD XP processor. Since 1 MHz != 1 MHz, AMD introcduced this rating. While the 2000+ only runs at 1.67 GHz it will for the most part perform the same as a p4 2.0 Ghz processor.

That being said, I would pick up the XP 2500+ Barton for $90.

The thermaltake is the Heatsink, goes on the processor. You *can* use the OEM HSF with AMD, but they run hotter than pentiums, so it is often better to spend a few dollars and pick up an aftermarket heat sink.

All in all that setup looks good. The mobo is nice, processor is nice, and you have enough RAM now, with the ability to upgrade later.

You gotta do better on the power supply.I would recommend an Antec Truepower 430 or 480 watt 99-129 dollars

Ditto!

Just think of the processors this way...

AMD XP2000 = Pentium 2.0 Ghz (only the AMD is faster IMO)
AMD XP2200 = Pentium 2.2 Ghz
AMD XP2600 = Pentium 2.6 Ghz
etc...

Get the picture?

twisted, you want him to spend over $100 on a BUDGET system? I agree, those PSU's kick ass...but there's no need for one in this situation.

Basically those numbers are a comparison to Pentiun 4's. The 2000+will perform as well or better than a 2000Mhz P4, a 2600+ will perform as well or better rhan a 2600Mhz P4.
A 2000+ actually runs at 1670Mhz and the 2600+ runs at 2080Mhz. It is confusing, but it doesn't stop there, now there are Athlon XP's that run on a 266FSB,333FSB, or 400FSB. Some have 256k L2 cache, and some have 512. There are XP's, MP's, 64's,64FX,and Opteron, Duron, and this doesn't include all the AMD processors you can buy that aren't made anymore.

If you watch the newspaper ads, it won't be hard to find a decent 17" monitor under $100.00

With nForce2 boards, you need the right power supply configuration to work to the best advantage for gaming.Never skimp on the cost there. This is my opinion only, although I am sure many people will agree. Or not!!!

That just means going with the 430 or 480 is overkill, IMO (In My Opinion). Take a look at the Antec page on Newegg...I'm running a 350w PSU on this system (been for a year now) and I leave it on 24/7, temp is always in the 40's.

ENLIGHT MEDIUM ATX TOWER CASE MODEL # EN-72370X3C4
350-watt Antec PSU
2 Case Fans
Windows XP Professional
Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Mobo (not nForce2, mind you)
AMD Athlon XP2000+ CPU (overclocked)
Volcano 6CU+ HS/FAN
1GB Crucial PC2700 RAM
Albatron GF4 Ti4200P Turbo Edition (overclocked to 4600 levels)
SoundBlaster Live 5.1 Platinum
128GB Hard Drive Space as follows:
2 x Maxtor 60gb 7200 RPM
Maxtor 8gb 7200 RPM
52X Creative Labs CD-ROM
LiteOn 52X CD-RW

I have 3 buddies running nForce2 boards, only one of them has a 400-watt PSU...the other two have 350's.

I don't disagree with you on having a good PSU, twisted, but for a budget system he can cut corners a little.

I agree completely that 430-480W is nothing but overkill!

350 is all that he will need for now IMO. 400 MAX, there is no reason to go to 430 or 480.
