Send a message via ICQ to JohnE.
Are the drivers on the PCChips disk, in a zip file perhaps? If so, try extracting the zip to a temp dir and update the driver through Device Manager: "Install from a list or specific location" then "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" then "Have Disk" then search for an .inf file in the location you extracted the zip file.

This should also work for any updated audio drivers you can download from the PCChips site (if they aren't on the CD).

You have the SiS 630 chipset there, which features a "7018" sound engine. There are drivers from SiS for this, and the ECS and PCChips web sites have alternate drivers. ECS calls this board "P6VEM3". Same thing.

Describe what you've been doing to install these drivers. We can hardly tell what you've been doing wrong without knowing what you've done to begin with

Hi
I have tryed to update driver by going to system, hardware, device manager,soundetc,sis7018,update driver, install from a list or specific location
I have tryed: 8738xp.zip,9738xp.zip,M787CL+_V3.0_030630s,030630S .rom,
intel.zip,via8233v16,010731s,021106s,021106S.rom,
8330wdm-417,sis7018,p6vem3_021113 and aminf335 !!!

I have tryed to just run p6vem3_021113 and aminf335

most times I get a message that says windows xp cannnot continue as the best driver is allready installed

and also uninstall sis7018 and system, hardware, add hardware wizard but before I can point to a driver xp says found new hardware an windows is installing the best driver

sorry if this sounds like gobbley-gook but I am very much a newbie!!

Here is what you need to do...find the latest driver..it is probably a .zip file..a zip file is a compressed file with the real driver files inside of it. So first you need to take the zip file and "unzip" it to a folder on your computer.

Make a folder like C:\drivers\motherboard or something like that. Then unzip the files to THAT folder.

THEN go to that folder and look at the files. If there is a "read me" or "release notes"..read them and see if it gives instructions.

If you look and there is just one .exe file sitting there then simply double click it.

If there are several files and maybe a .inf file then go to device manager and run the update driver thing like you did before...and when it asks for the location, browse it to the C:\drivers\motherboard folder.

from the look of the file names you listed..the .rom and aminf etc..it looks like you have a bios update and not a sound driver.

And also pointing it to a zip file definitely wont work...you have to unzip the zip like I described.

This looks like the file you need ---->sis7018.zip do you have that one? If so, unzip it to a folder like I described..then run the driver update and point it to that folder.

If you dont have that file, get it here http://www.pcchips.com.tw/driver/dri...odule_id=1,5,7

Yes. Sounds like you didn't unzip the driver from its download archive into an actually usable driver directory.

m787clm

I had this problem with this motherboard. The board has option of enabling sound ports on the front of cases, headphones and mic but if you wire them up it seems that the back speakers and mic socket disable. There are jumpers on the motherboard connections to the front sockets, these are to be removed to connect the fron sockets but doing so disconnects the back sockets. Reserting the jumpers gets the back sockets working again.
