The fix: there is a .BLOB file in your Steam directory that you have to delete. I think it's called "ClientRegistry.blob" or something like that.

1) Quit Steam.
2) Delete the file.
3) Restart Steam.
4) Steam will re-download the stuff you deleted.
5) Menus look pretty!

Yes, I believe they will begin forcing all users to use it eventually.

It's a good idea, but a little buggy at the moment. It's a much better alternative to Gamespy Arcade or Gamespy 3D IMO (although more buggy).
