Kids IE faster than Opera???

Hey guys!

I've been using Opera for a few days now and am really enjoying it...however, it seems that IE loads most web pages much faster than Opera, especially any secure sites. I launch both at the same time, IE wins. I launch Opera first, then load the same site into IE, IE wins...most of the time it's not even close! Is this normal or do I need to tweak Opera a little more somehow?

Thanks!

Mike

of course IE is faster. Plus the anoying design of opera is really a Pxxxoff. I can't stand opera. If you want IE with more features try AVANT BROWSER but beware it has still some bugs.

What are your cache settings martoch?

I personally find opera to be much faster than IE, and most test seem to agree that rendering under opera is faster than IE.

Edited since I cannot spell.

I agree to an extent...some sites seem to load faster, but most are loading faster with IE right now (so it seems anyway). Some sites will not even fully load with Opera.

Here are my cache settings:

I'm on 3mb cable...

This won't do too much, but I suggest turning cache images to 5 min

Also manually specify a cache, don't let it do automatic, this slows opera down. I use 4 MB.

I've got to agree with Martoch here; IE seems much faster to me. IE also renders my fonts much better than Opera does. Vassago convinced me Opera was a good company but I never could get comfortable with thier browser.

To each his own.

I'll try your suggestions jkrohn, thanks!

Scott...do you notice that sometimes when a page is loading in Opera, you can see the image path/directory in the white box before it actually shows up? Also, sometimes the page(s) won't fully load and the fonts/images are all jacked up looking. I find myself opening IE for a lot of sites.

FYI: I'm running an XP2000+ (running at 2Ghz) with 1GB Crucial PC2700 ram, and Albatron GeForce4 Ti4200P Turbo Edition (OC'd to 4600 levels)
