Kids PC Help Needed ASAP

I read the "Read Before Posting" message but because I'm not as familiar with computers as some of you are and because I have NO idea what my problem is related to, that's the best title I could come up with.

Anyway...about all I can tell you about my computer without digging through a bunch of papers is that I use a HP Pavillion and Windows 98 Second Edition.

My problem is that I tend to not be able to see ANY kind of graphics/pictures on mb's or sites after about an hour or so of having my pc on. I always have to restart to get them to show up again.

Also, I use to be able to single click on photos in my folders and a preview of them would show up to the left but it no longer does that and I have no idea why.

I apologize if I sound dumb and/or if there are really simple answers to my questions that I should probably already know.
I don't mean to waste anyone's time but everyone else I've asked couldn't help me. I'm hoping someone here can.

I'm a bit dense so you'll need to help me understand this better:

"My problem is that I tend to not be able to see ANY kind of graphics/pictures on mb's or sites after about an hour or so of having my pc on. I always have to restart to get them to show up again."

What's an mb? I'm sure it's something obvious....

This:

"Also, I use to be able to single click on photos in my folders and a preview of them would show up to the left but it no longer does that and I have no idea why."

is probably because you don't have Explorer's preview settings working right. Let me boot up my lappy (this takes some time...) and I'll look at the settings I think you'll need.

Oh, and with a name like yours you'll likely get a lot of responses here..

Okay,

Open Explorer (My Computer) - the Click on "View" the make sure "as Web Page" has a check beside it.

If that doesn't solve your second problem report back. I'll still need more info for the first.

GirlWithAProblem:

Hmm ... I wonder if your video/graphics card is dying? What type of CPU have you, if you know? (Likely an Intel, I'd guess.)

I'm wondering if something is overheating - CPU? or the video card ... ? The card must be seated properly, otherwise you likely would not enjoy that hour.

How much memory (RAM) have you in the HP? This could be a memory problem, and by rebooting the memory gets flushed ... and the problem is (temporarily) resolved ... ?

What percent of System Resources do you have when you first start the computer (Rt-Click MyComputer, Properties: should see "System Resources") vs percentage of Resources when images no longer display?

When did this problem first appear? What did you do, if anything, to your computer (e.g., add programs or hardware) prior to this problem rearing its ugly head?

Scott Tiger - A "mb" is a message board and I tried what you suggested and it worked for the "my computer" part but it won't work for anything in "my documents".

Brangwen - I feel really stupid here because your post left me sitting here going "Huh?" lol

The only thing I can answer (without further instructions from you) is that my system resources are around 87% when I first start up and about 67% when I lose all grahics, etc.

I don't recall doing anything different to my computer or adding any new hardware or software so I'm not sure what's causing this problem.

If either of you need more info then just tell me how and/or where to find it and I'll try my best to get it for you.

Thanks for all your help so far.
