Loading XP problem

I bought a used hard drive and when I try to load XP it stops and tells me there is a partion on the drive and it will not load XP. I repartitioned the hard drive but still will not work. I can load all other versions of windows but not XP. Any ideas?

What did you use to repartition the drive?

If you used Fdisk, try downloading a 3rd party program. I use AEFDisk. You can get it from Download.com.

[AEF DISK METHOD]
Boot with a 98 startup disk or whatever you have to get you to a dos prompt and then put in the AEF disk. Type AEFDISK /DELALL and it will remove all partitions. Reinsert the 98 boot disk and go into fdisk. Add a primary dos partition and reinstall your windows. That should work.

[OTHER METHOD]
Boot with a 98 startup disk or whatever you have to get you to a dos prompt. Enter FDISK and delete all partitions. Return to the A:\ Prompt and type the following: FORMAT C:/u/s and it will format your drive. Restart. Go back info FDISK and create a new Primary DOS partition. Reinstall windows.

Booting from the XP Cd should enable you to partition and format the drive.
