problems staying connected to AIM

I have a very odd problem staying connected to AIM. At certain times, i'm able to stay connected for hours on end without any problems, and at other times, i get disconnected from AIM almost every 10-20 seconds. This sometimes lasts for hours on end, sometimes all day, i get disconnected and reconnected until i reach the sign-on limit and after that passes, the cycle starts again.

I'm have a cable internet connection and am in an apt with 4 other guys using a router. My roommate doesn't seem to have this problem staying on.

Any ideas why this happens and how i can fix it?

you can try getting the latest version of AIM.

is it a wired network? does your internet connection drop or is it just aim?

may want to check for driver updates for your network card.

I have the same problem. I don't get dropped as often as you but I do get dropped from time to time.

I'm using AIM 4.8.2790 with the MyIM hack. I'd upgrade but MyIM isn't compatible with the 5.x versions yet.

Edit: Relevant Info - I'm also on a cable connection and behind a router. I live by myself so there's no one else here to break my connection. I think this "just happens" when the AIM server is under a load.

I have the same problem from time to time. My MSN Messenger does the same thing. Sometimes more often than AIM does. I know my connection doesn't get dropped because I will be listening to an internet radio station and it will continue to play.
