Atapi DVD Rom

Hey I have a windows 98se OS on this pc.
I can't get the DVD to play a movie, tried Power DVD and WIN-DVD
software.
Shows up fine in the Device Mrg.
It won't load and gives me errors, to blue screen.
It will work as a CD-Rom
Is this a driver issue.
If so where might I find the ATAPI 16X DVD-ROM drivers for 98se.
Thanks for reading and any consideration.

Send a message via ICQ to JayMan
What are the error messages that you get? And when do they occur?

Thanks for your concern

It says

if disk is still in drive it may require cleaning
ESC. to cancel

The Movie is new and plays fine in MY PC's DVD-ROM

A DVD drive does not need a driver and it will appear in device manager as a CD-ROM (as will any ATAPI device).

This is a software issue. Does the DVD software recognize the drive?

like osprey said no driver is needed, some hardware reasons

i have seen this situation when there is no dvd and it is a cd drive
(you have of course verified this is not the case)

i have also seen it when a video card does not support dvd playback, since it is a 98se machine and maybe older? you may need to look into that

Is this DVDRom on it's own cable? I think they're like CDRW's in that they like being configured as a Master.

You should also look into DMA settings and see what you've got the drive set at.

I'd go looking in this direction first because if both WinDVD and PowerDVD crash the pc it would seem to be an OS/Hardware configuration issue.

Sorry, this confuses me... You said you get an error with dvd discs, but then you just said it plays fine in your dvd-rom...

Your not trying to play a DVD disc in your cd-rom drive when you get the errors are you?

If you have 2 PCs there try swapping the drives. That would at least tell you whenter it's a hardware problem or an OS problem. My guess would be the lense is dirty in the DVD-ROM.
