video out to tv

HI, I have sony Vaio PCG-FR720, which has a Nvidia GeForce4 420 Go video card, Im trying to connect it up to the tv via the video out jack, i have plugged a RCA cable with the proper connection on one end of it that fits into the laptop jack to the video in on the tv.

i then changed the tv to the av channel, and booted the laptop up, the tv flickers from the normal blue colour (on the av channel) to a black, then just goes back to the blue colour.

I have changed the settings to what i think are correct in the display properties for the second monitor/tv etc.. and use the function keys on the laptop to change the picture from the laptop to the tv and nothing happens...

any ideas on what im doing wrong?!?!?

i think the software is called nview... cause it asked me to install it once the av cable was plugged in and i booted the laptop.

I do believe that software is included in their driver package...

If I remember the last nVidia TV-out I enabled, the controls are in the Advanced settings of the display controls. I prefer the clone mode with theater mode enabled. This provides a nice clone of the desktop unless you are watching a video, in which case you can still play on your desktop while the TV picture shows only the movie (but minimizing or dragging the movie completely off the screen will kick off theater mode in most situations).

From the advanced settings there should also be a display of the available outputs, with the ones enabled being of brighter colors (and maybe the ones disabled having an "X" in their enable button). You'll see options such as multiple CRT's, DVI, TV there. If the TV output is enabled there and your desktop is cloned, I'm not sure where to go...there's gotta be another setting in there somewhere to enable the TV-out. I recall having a similar issue the first time I did this, but I don't recall off hand where I found the fix...
