Install.Log File - "Could not open?"

Fellow Members:

I (perhaps foolishly --- NO COMMENTS PLEASE) installed a program that displays temperature and other weather conditions in my systray.

I am attempting to uninstall it: Start/Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs under Win2KPro. The program goes through the "uninstall" bit, but the program does not uninstall. Instead, as an added bit of drama I receive a message "Install.Log File Could Not Open."

Any ideas on how to uninstall this gem? Nice program by all appearances, but I'm suddenly having difficulty pasting contents of clipboard while in WordPerfect v. 11 ... program shuts down: never behaved this way before so I'm attempting to dump superflueous/unnecessary programs.

Any ideas? What's "Install.Log File Could Not Open?" Can I dump the program through the Registry?

Thx.

Brangwen

Did you terminate the program first before youm tried to uninstall it? Which weather program is it?

Yes you can dump through registry but you won't clear the CLSID. Are you running AV during uninstall? Try to disable any AV prog before uninstalling and make sure you are at administator level.

meese: I terminated the program (Weatherbug) before attempting uninstall. Thx.

excuzzzeme: I disabled my SW firewall, but not the AV ... I'll give that a go. Thx.

removing programs through registry entries is sometimes necessary vs. a reinstallation scenario (usually caused by deleting something or simply a poorly written uninstall

the clsid not being cleared is not really a big deal, it simply becomes a registry orphan (unassociated)

that is what regcleaners are for

What do you recommend?

Thx.

Brangwen - I'm unfamiliar with Reg.Cleaners ...

i don't use them myself, the unassociated id is not a big deal, regcleaners simply remove the unassociated keys and compact the registry, the few i have tried don't tell you what they are doing either which i find annoying (with the exception of norton system works)

neither of these issues cause any REAL problems so i don't really spend any time worrying about it

that being said you can download one from most any popular download site (cnet, tucows, etc) if you would like to experiment
