Kids Why? FX5200 is bad?

I just got a free Geforce FX5200. I was happy coz I still have a Geforce3 Ti200. Faster Clock speeds and more Vram should = a faster card. I used 3dMark2k1 se and came up with 5200 points for the 5200. This is so wierd coz my Ti200 got 7200! What's the deal?

Nice. PM me with more info... Make an offer and the such. I just dont get why a newer card would be slower.

It looks like the 5200 is a step above the GF4 mx440.
I still think the GF 4 4200 is the best value right now.

Hmmm. Thanks for the input. IS the 5200 a good OC card?

The 5200 is an entry level card designed as a DX9 replacement for the ge4MX's. IOW, it aint that great. It can OC nicely, try it to find out.

I upgraded from a GF2 Ti200 to an FX5200 and my performance just went through the roof. I'm not saying it's a fast card but it's sure faster than a GF2 lol.

Is the 5200 crap? Not really, just don't expect too much out of it.
As for overclocking, you can get a good 10% boost overall out of overclocking.
I overclocked my 5200 using CoolBits
http://www.overclockers.com.au/files/CoolBits.reg

A manual for it is on this page
http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_coolbits/

Just for referance
Card: MSI made GeForce FX5200 (non ultra)
Initial memory speed: 400mhz
Overclocked memory speed: 451mhz
Initial 2D core speed: 250mhz
Overclocked 2D core speed: 291mhz
Initial 3D core speed: 250mhz
Overclocked 3D core speed: 291mhz

Any higher than about 291mhz and games start to almost freeze up. It took me about 3 minutes to exit JK2 when I overclocked the 3D core too much! If you put the memory higher than 450 or so, the screen just goes black and you have to restart.

The high level GF4 are a bit faster than the 5200, but you're getting better results with a GF3 ??? That's scary...

do only the FX series have the autodetect feature in the clock frequencies? i used coolbits on my GeForce 4 and it only had sliders for core and memory.
