Outdoors This makes me the mad!

Hey guys! Need you athlon gurus help! I just purchased myself an AthlonXP 2500+ because I have been reading about the huge OC'ing capabilities. I got it from NewEgg and I put her in. "UNKOWN CPU. ~1469" That's what it tells me at startup. Ugh...It clocked it down from 1.8! Anyone know a sollution?

MOBO: Shuttle SpaceWalker ViaKT266a Chipset.

Do i need to update the bios or what? This is most upsetting! Thanks for the help in advanced!

The problem is that your motherboard doesn't support the FSB needed for this chip.

The 2500+ runs on a 333 MHz FSB (so 166)
Your board is only capable of 266 MHz FSB (133).

333 * 5.5 = 1.8
255 * 5.5 = 1.463

Sorry to break the news to ya, but you will need to buy a new mobo to get the speed out of this bad boy.

The Abit NF7-S is an excellent board.
Usually can be found at Neweggs refurb bin for $59.00 shipping included.

You will also need to be running DDR333 or above with a 333Mhz FSB. I suggest getting DDR400 for when you want to push your bus higher.

The Abit mobo's are super good for overclocking, but if you can spend a little more I'm really happy with my Asus A7N8X Deluxe and it's features. I plopped a 2500+ in their and now have it running at 3200+ speeds on a 400Mhz bus, no problems.

Here is the board I just got to go along with my XP 2500+ Barton fsb333 and it works great:

Gigabyte GA-7N400-L, nForce2 Ultra400 chipset
Chipset:nForce 2 Ultra400 + MCP
FSB: 400/333/266/200
RAM: DDR*4 (dual channel) DDR400/333/266 Max 3GB
IDE: Dual channel Ultra ATA 133/100/66 Max 4 Devices
Slots:1 x AGP pro slot (8x/4x-AGP 3.0 compliant), supports 1.5v display card only. 5 x PCI slots (PCI 2.2 compliant
Ports:2xPS2, 2xCOM,1xLPT,1xLAN, 4xUSB and Audio Ports
Onboard Audio:AC97 (ALC650) 6 Channel onboard Codec
Onboard LAN: Realtek 8100C 10/100 Ethernet

I also got the PC3200 DDR400 memory so I would be able to upgrade the processor to a 400fsb when they come down in price or OC the Barton like Arctic said above.
