SuSE 9.0 maybe w/ NTFS Write Support

SuSE 9.0 is comming soon and if it is anything like their past ".0" releases I'd just as soon wait for the 9.1 release.... except that ..IT MAY HAVE NTFS WRITE SUPPORT!

..oh what to do? what to do?

Quote:
SUSE LINUX 9.0 -- the first home user operating system platform to leverage AMD's Athlon 64 processor -- enables easier Windows migration by supporting NTFS file systems and also gives experienced users a sneak peek at the enhanced capabilities of the 2.6 Linux kernel - with many of those capabilities back-ported into the 2.4 default kernel as well. SUSE's latest release provides additional administration and tuning features as well as an expanded slate of software packages.
-I hope they are not just talking about partitioning resizing support..

It hasn't, in fact, its still fairly dangerous.
You need to run a pile of cleanup commands when it gets unmounted, so that's why its not in many distros atm. The driver is ok really, and write support has been working for some time, its just that there is a possibility of screwing everything up.
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/
There is also an unofficial driver that claims to provide full read-write access, and SuSe may be using their driver instead of the one in the vanilla kernel.

Definetely something to be interested in for sure. I like the versions that I have used and the idea of SuSE in general is great. It is a great distro, and if this release is promising, which it seems to be, I would definetely spend some bucks in it. Thanks for the news CMonster!
