Kids Installing OS issues

We are trying to build some new computers here for our campus. However, when we install the OS we are encountering a problem. The text mode setup works fine. When the computer reboots to enter the GUI mode of the setup, it just hangs at the Windows screen and will not go any further. We thought it was a PS problem and replaced with a confirmed working one, but still no good. We have also tried placing the RAM into a known working computer with no probs. The specs are below.

AMD Athalon 1100
128 Mb
10GB HD IBM (new)
MSI Mobo (can't find model on it)
48x CD

Thanks in advance for any help in this matter, and trust me it is greatly appreciated. If you need any additional info, please let me know.

I have an MSI KT4VL board, and had a similar problem.... If I remember correctly, the boot sector protection makes the system hang when trying to install the OS with my MSI mobo....

Boot the system, enter the BIOS, and there's an option at the bottom of one of the screens to "disable boot sector protection" ??

Click on the "disable" option, then "save & exit" from the main BIOS screen.

Reboot the system, and reinstall your OS as normal....

...but once you've finished installing the OS, remember to go back in to BIOS afterwards and reset the "disable" option back to enable protection!

Hope this helps??

What's the OS?

Also, just because one stick of memory works well in one machine does not necessarily mean it will run error free in another computer. Seems strange but that's the way it is sometimes.

I'd recommend downloading MemTest from www.memtest86.com.

You can also try hitting F5 (I think thats the F key, memory failing) at the start of the installation and selecting a different HAL, although it does sound rather like you have some bad RAM or other faulty hardware.

Regards
