ISA sound cards: what [were] the best?
Anybody have any recollection of what were the top ISA sound cards? Just need one for a beast...doesn't need to have a whole bunch of crazy stuff, just great sound & processing power.

The good ol' Sound Blaster 16 was a great ISA sound card. I still have one in service.

How about Media Vision's Pro Audio Spectrum. There are some driver sites that still have the DOS and Win3.x drivers.

Was there an AWE32? I saw an AWE of some sort at a local computer shop. Guy only wanted $5 for it, but I had no cash and he didn't want to do such a small charge.

I remember playing dos games and not only did u have to know the exact name of your sound card SB 16, SB PRO, AWE32, but you also had to know all that IRQ, DMA channel, and all that other stupid numbers.
Ahh, but those were the days...

Yes, there was an AWE32. I found a page for it ( http://spec.ch.man.ac.uk/~ashley/awefaq.html). It looks line one of the differences is that the 32 had 512k of onboard RAM while the 64 had 4MB.

Duuuude, I just found two AWE64 cards at a local shop on a shelf surrouned by crap cards (mostly, though I will return to look for any other jewels). Got those two (CT4380 & CT4390) and a Vertigo TNT2 PCI 32MB for $12! Gotta love a guy who barters...now I just hope they work (should have tested them before I bragged, as I may have jinxed meself)
Ahhh yes Joker, those were the days! Now everything is Plug and Play [Havok].

The best ISA card i have ever worked with was the Turtle Beach Tropez Plus (TBS2001). It had 4 slots in order to upgrade your memory with 30pin simms, wavetable midi's and the ability to load soundfonts...
Sounded brilliant...
Not much though of a gamer card...

I rember that the good old AWE32 which was a monster card, was better then the AWE64 in many ways. I might be wrong in that do not rember anymore. One thing I do know is that the AWE64 does not the standard sound inputs, but uses RCA ones, and has no pre amplification so you need powered speakers.
