Recently our computer died and we got a new AMD Atlon XP mainboard, previously we had a NVIDIA GeForce2 ti graphics and sound card and it was working tops. Well after we got the new mainboard all the software for sound has gone and ive downloaded drivers but really how now idea how to adress the problem of no sound. Can anyone give any help what so ever? If you want anymore information just ask and ill give it. Thanks.

Welcome to TechIMO!

What is your soundcard brand?

What do you have listed in Device Manager?

What O.S.?

The Nvidia graphics card incorporates the sound card, doesnt it? What do you mean by O.S? If it doesnt, how can I find out the sound card brand? Thanks.

Pull the card your speakers are plugged into and it should be printed on it or look in device manager and see what it says there under sound.

Somewhat related question

I have built-in sound on my Biostar M7VIG Pro board. But when I plug in my headphones, the sound is distorted. What gives?

Under which subheading do you want me to look under in the device manager? Sound, video and game controllers?
It says :Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Video codecs

I cant take apart my tower right now, but ill do it tommorow and have a look to see what it says on the sound card.

Where can I find information on my operating system? In the Device manager?
What I basically know is its a AMD Athlon XP 1500+, so I think thats what your asking. We have windows XP.

VaTech start your own thread! It will work better for you that way.

BTW, your sound output jack cannot drive the headphones directly. Some soundcards can drive headphones, others can not.

Do you have a "speaker" icon in your taskbar - bottom right?

No there is no icon for sound. Only two computers flashing, representing the internet and an icon for our anti virus programe.
