I currently have my P4 2A overclocked to 2.4 Ghz (120X4)
The temps seem high to me but the CPU is perfectly stable. Temps around 50C Idle and 60C Full load. Because of its stability I have assumed that its fine, I dont think its healthy since throttling starts around 67C.

I am using stock HSF and Antec reference silver compound.

I dont have the money for a new HSF, I have a cool room and good air flow.

Does any one know if these temps will cause any harm?

Also does any one know of a better then stock P4 Heatsink that does not need the additional mobo holes for mounting?

I'm using a P4 2.4ghz 533FBS. Micro atx case with only one 8cm
case fan. Cpu heatsink is a Coolermaster. Room temp avg 70-76.
Both sides of the case are in place. CPU temp avg 36-40 C. Shut-
down temp set at 45C. Only once this summer it hit 45C. Room
temp was 100-102F ( my AC quit this summer). No over clocking.
I hope this helps.

I'm running a dual Xeon 2.4Ghz 533FSB and 50C idle isn't too bad. Of course you could get it cooler by using an aftermarket heatsink.

My processors are at 37C as I type this message. I run a pair of Swiftech MCX603 for my processors which do a heck of a better job cooling and the noise level is so much lower...

I had some heat issues due to my TI-4200 feeding all the heat to my processors.

Here is what I've done to rsolve this problem...

The Vantec Aeroflow for the P4 should be pretty good, and it uses the standard retention bracket, which means a no-hassle install. I haven't used the P4 version, but the AMD version is pretty darn quiet, and it keeps even the old 1700 Palomino it's on very cool compared to the old swiftech cooler that was on it.

Other than that, overclockers.com has a pretty up-to-date heatsink rankings page here:

http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/

That page has links to their reviews, as well, so you can see what kind of mounting mechanisms they use, and how easy they were to set up.

So http://www.overclockers.com/articles644/ will work with the retention bracket?
