IE6 Pages wont load all the time.
OK, let me start by saying I have read about 12 pages worth of posts on this subject but no one has answered this question... here are my symptoms.
I am using IE6 on Win XP Pro. I have a 786 DSL connection. When I start IE it takes a good 60 seconds to find and load the page. Sometimes it tells me the page is not found, if I simply reload the page, it comes up. Sometimes I can click a link and nothing will happen, I have to click it 5 or 6 times before it will go to the page. I know this is not a problem with my DSL, I can download files at over 90kbps, I can use Kazaa, I am running my FTP and people can download and upload at full speed. Before you ask, NO I am not running those apps when this problem occurs. It occurs no matter what I am doing online, even when I am doing nothing but browsing. I have installed all the latest updates for Win XP and IE6 to no avail. I have reloaded Win XP over the top of my current install, this did not fix the problem either. I have run spybot, norton AV with the latest virus definitions. They both find nothing. I KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH IE6!!! I just dont know how to fix it. I have completely eradicated IE and reinstalled, which leads me to believe that it may be ingrained in to XP, possibly a registry entry, although I have read about this problem on Win 2000 systems as well. I have seen posts very similiar to this and the answers always try and point them to network settings. This is not a network issue, I have had the same network settings for the past 4 years and havent had this problem until recently. I have reset my router, rebooted it and even tried a different brand. I can tell you I am 100% sure it is not a hardware problem. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them, but dont tell me to download Netscape or Opera, those are not solutions, they are alternatives. I am not interested in them.

1. Clear the IE Cache
2. Check for spyware (AdAware www.lavasoft.de)
Spyware (you can thank IE for) is great at borking IE

Have you got a firewall installed? I had a similar problem some time ago with ZoneAlarm.
If you have, try disabling the firewall and see if there's any difference.

Ran Adware, while it did find ad software, deleting it all did not help.
The Index file you suggested altering was on ly 32k in size, I didn't bother to rename it. I somehoe doubt that 32k is too large to process on my system.
I am not running any firewall software, the firewall is built in to my router.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

While not too large, it maybe corrupt
It doesn't hurt to rename it, as IE will just create another one
Some people write jobs to delete it on occasion.

What does it say in the status bar while you're waiting for a page to load?
"Finding site" might indicate that it's having trouble with DNS or connecting to your ISP
"Connecting to [IP address]" might indicate a slowdown on the route between your ISP and the site you're visiting
"Web site found, waiting for reply" might be a problem with the site itself or, again, a slowdown on the net
"Opening page" would indicate a problem with IE - the page has reached your computer but IE is having trouble loading it

Sometimes the status bar reads finding site, then it will say page not found. If I reload it, it comes right up.
Sometimes it doesnt say anything on the status bar, but there is a long puase before the page finally appears. It wont say finding site, loading, redirecting, etc...
Other times I click a link and nothing happens until I click the link several more times.
If it were a problem with network settings, I dont believe any of my other network related programs would function as flawlessly as the do.
I am 99.9% sure the problem is with IE.
