Motherboard Naming

Does anyone know a website where I could get the explanations for motherboard names? For example, the Abit IS7. I'm guessing it's for Intel Springdale, but I don't know where the 7 is from. If any of you know what the names mean yourselves, post them up. Maybe we can get a list going.

7 almost always means Athlon...but in the case you stated, its Intel!! lol.

From K7 being athlon

K6 was the K6-2 series etc

K5 being pentiums.

So some Athlon boards

Epox Kx7a
Abit NF7
Chaintech 7kjd
MSI K7T
ECS K7s5a

etc etc.

scroll down and look at the names of many of these boards http://www.newegg.com/app/listProduc...tby=11&order=0

Here's a cool one for AOpen boards..breaks it down good for ya http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/namingrule.htm

There is no standard for this stuff but some of it is probably used by other companies.

Some Abit hints http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/1...va6/va6-1.html

Quote-> "Now, many of you are familiar with ABIT motherboards and their naming conventions. With the BX6 being the pioneer of their BX chipset motherboards and the LX6 being their flagship LX board, it's no surprise that they called this new VIA Apollo Pro mobo the VA6. (In case you're wondering, the '6' comes from '6th' generation Intel-compatible processor). "
