Misc AMD 2500+ problem

Hello Everyone im new!!! You all seem to do a good job of helping people so i was hoping you could help me too

Im using an AMD 1500+ barton chip with the asus a7n8x deluxe
mb.

It seems i'm having a little heat problem, my bios reads thats my processor is running at 60c stocked. That sucks cause i want to overclock and bring it down to like 40 like other peeps using this chip. I also have a 120mm fan installed to exhaust the system. So any ideas to cool it will help

Are you using the factory heatsink that came with the processor?

Did you put thermal grease on yourself?
If so how THIN did you put it? (THIN being the keyword... VERY thin)

im using an igloo fan its pretty quite but i dont think that is the problem, the heatsink isnt even that hot when i touch it so i thinking that maybe the sensor is bad?

no i did not apply the thermal compound but now i wish i did. maybe the person who did it messed up.

So do you guys have any clue what i need to do to improve? To add a note, I only have one exhaust fans, no incoming fans. i have my graphics card overclocked a lot and its not even that hot. I also read somewhere that if the heatsink isnt that hot then it might mean that the thermal paste isnt transfering the heat as well. MAYBE i have the GHETTO thermal paste!!!! Argh i bet that computer guy put on like shaving cream or something lol. Well anyways would adding a fan to blow air into my case help cool down? its at 60-65c at idle. help me plz

Yeah... it might be a good idea to wipe off the shaving cream and use Arctic Silver III. Most people here recommend it.

How do i know which one is my cpu, the 64x or the 42c. They both say temp1 but i cant figure out which one is right help me plz.

First, get MotherboardMonitor. Get your temps that way. Set it up as Sensor 1 - meter 1 etc... Sensor 1 is your CPU, and Sensor 2 is your motherboard.

Give us your temps using that program. You may want to, nay, you have to put thermal paste on, and use a very thin layer.

I would trust the asus utility that came with your board (you did install it didn't you?) over someone elses program.

add an intake fan to the front of your case to get some cool air in there.
