Kids Viewsonic VP171B and 16ms DVI LCDs in general

I've decided to go for one of the 16ms LCDs with DVI. So far, Viewsonic VP171B looks the best.

What concerns me the most is the fact that, for some 16ms monitors (Planar PX171M in particular), the screen refresh rate is limited to 60 Hz when DVI is used. When analog connection is used, the refresh rate limit is much higher.

Does vp171b have the 60 Hz limitation with DVI? If not, what was the highest refresh rate that you could have on it with DVI?
Are there any other "inconveniences" anyone experienced with this LCD?

My backup choice would be Hitachi CML174/CML175, but I have the same concerns with it as well.

I'm very disappointed

I can't believe none of you knows or cares to share if vp171b has the 60 Hz limitation with DVI?
I guess I'll have to take my chances...

I care and I share your pain. I just don't know. I have been looking for a 16ms response time 17" LCD for over a month. I have not been able to foind out a lot of info. For example, why is the Samsung 172X (a 16ms LCD) not offered in the USA. Where is the mysterious 12ms (yes 12ms) 17" LCD from AU electronics that was debuted in September at an Asain electronics show. Please post your review of the monitor.

I thought that flat screen monitors don't have a refresh rating like CRT monitors.. (60hz). Correct me if i'm wrong please lol thanks

p.s. welcome to techimo.com!

yeah LCDs don't refresh, lol, they just change color when they need to, which is a lot nicer than the beam of electrons going up and down and back and forth really fast stimulating the phosphors on the screen trying to keep them on. There is no flashing on and off just fast enough so that we can't see it (we really can see it though). The LCD's red, green, or blue subpixel varies its brightness in reaction to the signal. It's not a limitation, just a nice property of LCDs. Now I've been hearing that OLEDs are going to be cheaper than LCDs.
