Anyway, so I had scratches that I just couldn't remove from my Sony Trinitron Multiscan E400. So, I decided today I would take the monitor apart and see what exactly I was working against. Once I took the monitor apart I found out why no matter what I used, I could not get the scratches off the monitor. Come to find there was a film about as thick as a couple layers of "LIMO" tint. Pretty hefty stuff. It was applied to the monitor tube. Well, I peeled it off, just like removing a sticker, and no more scratches. Now the monitor is pretty bright, but nothing a 3M Anti-Glare screen from Comp. USA couldn't fix. Now my monitor has no scratches and with the anti-glare screen in place I'm set to go again. I called and talked with Sony about seeing if I could purchase a replacement film, but they do not make those for this monitor anymore. Go figure... But I'm glad I got my monitor back. Crisp and clear!!!!!
It doesn't reflect as much as it's very bright. It basically looked like an old 486 monitor screen after the film was peeled off. Just really bright and really clear... So I bought one of those 3M Anti-glare screens and set my brightness to: 20 and my contrast to: 56. All seems well. Wish I could find a place that would put new film back on.
well since my adventure, I would have to say this monitor still ROCKS!!!! Actually the picture is sharper than it was before! Using the 3M Glare Screen cuts the brightness down but as for the picture quality it is crisp and clear! Just like "NEW". I am so glad I got up the nerve to take the monitor apart and find out why I could not get those scratches out.
Just hope the cat doesn't scratch it now, cause then it would be bad... O'course, if you have that anti-glare screen on there, it will be harder for the cat to get at it.
He was able to scratch it because it was just a film on top of glass. Now it's just glass, but I am using a filtered screen to cover the monitor.... hmmm.... he better not scratch this, though the price of the Glare screen is much cheaper than a new monitor....
I've seen the older key boards with real circut boards (not these pressure sending plasic things they are now) go through dishwashers and be better than new when they came out.
