External modem setup

Hey,

I have an external modem blaster modem I just bought and installed in my office. Everything appears to have installed alright but I have to blind dial, because the modem cannot detect a dial tone on te line. I'm guessing that this is because of the phone system that is set up here. However, once it dials, it cannot hear the ring and answer of the modem it is dialing into. Both modems are v.92 and I can dial the modem manually and hear the ring and the handshake through the line that is still connected to the modem. How can I get the modem to connect? Any hints?

Do you have to use some kind of code to get an outside line? Have you added that to your dial Init string?
. Is the office phone system digital or analog? If digital, you'll need some kind of adapter to use an anaolg modem on the system. Or else hook it to some direct line like what might be used for a fax machine.

There is no extra numberr needed to get to an outside line. I believe the phone office system is analog (they have fax machines connected directely to the lines).

Make sure the phone line is plugged into the proper jack on the back of the modem - the one marked LINE. Some modems cut off the jack marked PHONE with a relay when the modem in use to prevent getting cut off which can happen if someone picks up an extension phone that might be connected to that jack. Comprende?

Send a message via Yahoo to kendo
this may not apply in your situation

we have a digital phone system installed but for modems and fax machines we route an analog line

To isolate where the problem is, try the modem on one of the lines that a fax machine is plugged in to. (Fax machines have what amounts to a single-purpose modem in them.) If it works, you know it's the drop that you're plugging it in to. If it doesn't, you know it's something with the setup or the modem itself.

I've checked all of the connections and they are connected correctly. I'm going to try dialing from another phone jack to see if that makes a difference.
